Obituary of Karl J. Winkler

Please share a memory of Karl J. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Karl J. Winkler, 97, of Troy, peacefully entered into eternal life on Thursday, March 15, 2018.

Born in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of the late Justus H. and Barbara Kahn Winkler and the beloved husband of the late Arlynne A. Press Winkler, who passed away on May 26, 2010.

Mr. Winkler was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy in Schenectady and earned his BA from RPI in Aeronautical Engineering.

Following retirement from Fairchild Industries, he was a consultant and contracts manager with SEDCO in Farmingdale, LI, NY and had previously held positions in the aeronautical industry with Curtis-Wright and Republic Aviation.

He fondly remembered growing up in Schenectady in a large family, playing basketball with the "Family-team" at the Turnverine and other venues, then playing basketball and baseball at R.P.I. Throughout his life, he participated in many activates;

            He was an accomplished bowler in several leagues and brought home many frozen turkey prizes.

            He enjoyed the many water activities at Huntington Beach; swimming, fishing, but especially sailing our catamaran in search of the perfect one-pontoon wind.

            He attended most of his sons and later grandsons and daughters academic and sports activities; golf matches, baseball games, gymnastics meets, soccer matches, track meets, but especially traveling around the Northeast to Hammer competitions.

            He coached and umpired Little League baseball.

            He and Arlene were active socially with their many friends and relatives; hosting and attending dinners, going on cruises, trips to Europe, dinners and plays on Broadway, and moving to Florida seasonally with the "snow-birds", always stopping to visit Gerry and Judy and family in Hagerstown.

            Karl was an avid golfer, golf fan and loved to watch golf on television.

            The same could be said for baseball where he was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and watched most all of their games.

            He was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church in Lansingburgh.

Devoted father of David (Wenda) and Gerry (Judy) Winkler, cherished "Grandpa" of Carley (Chris) Dellinger, Tim (Denise) Freitag, Bayly Winkler, Laney (Dom) Comitale, Carey (Nick) Cardamone, Chase Winkler, Dane Winkler and Rudy Winkler, adored great "grandpa-grandpa" of Dominick Comitale, Haley Comitale and Kennedy Dellinger, also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Henry Winkler, Ethel Ward, Marguerite Male and Jean Fonda.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Lansingburgh.

Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady.
