Raymond C. "Ray" Urban Obituary

Raymond C. Urban, 94, died surrounded by his loving family Saturday, June 14th, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and quiet strength. Born on April 26, 1931 in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Stephen and Cecile Stackelroth Urban.

Ray married the love of his life, Phyllis V. Sydlanski on May 9, 1959 in New York City. After relocating from Pittsfield, MA to Ballston Lake, NY, they raised five children together, instilling in them the values of hard work, kindness, and integrity.

A graduate of Fordham University, Ray pursued a successful career as a  chemist at General Electric, where his innovative work earned him several patents. His contributions reflected not only his intelligence but also his unwavering commitment to progress and excellence in his field.

Ray proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged, returning home to begin a new chapter of family and community life.

He was a man of many passions. Fishing, hunting, and gardening brought him great joy and peace throughout his life. Just as important was his faith; Ray was deeply dedicated to his church community of Corpus Christi and served for many years in the choir, where he shared not only his voice but his spirit of service and fellowship.

Ray will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him.

Survivors include his sister Dorothy (John) Francis, five children; Sharon (William) Shyne of Mechanicville, Karen Urban of Malta, Erin (Jeffrey) Bressette of Keeseville, Thomas (Michelle) Urban of Galway, and Matthew Urban of Troy, eight grandchildren; William (Leslie) Shyne, Brian (Stephanie) Shyne, Alicia (Gregory) Sauer, Colleen (Allen) Macey, Justin (Lexi) Bressette, Nicholas (Nicole) Inco, Gabrielle (Arthur) Raskin, Nathaniel Urban, as well as eight great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his wife Phyllis V. Sydlansky Urban, his brothers Richard and Warren Urban, his sister Joan Kutschera, and his grandson Carmen John Inco, III.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. His funeral will be held Monday  morning at 9:45 a.m. from the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9 in Clifton Park, thence to Corpus Christi Church, 2001 Ushers Rd (at RT- 9), Round Lake, NY 12151, where at 10:30 a.m. the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be held in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at The Wesley Community for their utmost care and compassion during his time with them.
