Bill was last employed by the Albany County Office of Weights and Measures had previously served as a Police Officer with the Albany Police Department, a Firefighter with the Slingerlands Fire Department for over 10 years and owned and operated Mr. Mac’s Appliance Sales and Repair Store.

From serving his country in the military, to serving his community locally as a first responder with the Albany Police Department and the Slingerlands Fire Department, he also found time to be active with local elections. He was very proud to have locally initiated “Operation We Care” with Rose in 1990 sending packages to our troops when their son Bill, was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He loved to golf, bowling, reading and was passionate about his gardens and lawn. He was gifted and could be referred to as a jack of all trades or a Mr. Fix-it. Bill and Rose loved vacationing annually for over 25 years to Gloucester, MA. Bill loved his family and especially his grandchildren, cookouts with his friends and family and weekly Sunday dinner.

A private funeral was held at the convenience of the family with military honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.

There are no public calling hours or services in keeping with Bill’s wishes.

The McGarry family would like to express their most sincere appreciation to the nurses, doctors and staff at the Schenectady Center for Nursing and Rehab.  The family would like to sincerely thank the staff for going above and beyond with their care for Bill as well as their compassion toward Rose and his entire family during his stay there.
