John A. Gorcesky, 85, formerly of Halfmoon, peacefully entered into eternal life on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at The Grand at Guilderland, where he has resided for over the past 10 years.
Born in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late John W. and Katherine Gniewek Gorcesky and was educated in a one room Halfmoon school house and later Shenendehowa Central schools after its opening. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1958-1962 and was awarded the Sharpshooter Rifle, Sharpshooter Carbine, and Good Conduct Medals and his Honorable Discharge.
Mr. Gorcesky was employed at the Grand Union Warehouse in Waterford, NY where he was a professional Truck Driver, then was an independent trucker and lastly enjoyed working at Hannaford in Clifton Park, where he served in various capacities.
John loved to ride his many Harley-Davidsons throughout his lifetime, starting with a 1968 Electra Glide to his 2005 Ultra-Glide Classic, always racking up 80K plus miles on each bike before it was time for an upgrade. He always rode (rain or shine, mostly rain) to the Laconia, NH motorcycle rally, from 1979 to 2006.
Mr. Gorcesky had been a member of H.O.G (Harley Owners Group) with McDermott’s Harley-Davidson in the nineties and Brunswick Harley-Davidson in the 2000’s, attending just about every ride and helping the club whenever needed.
He enjoyed deer hunting, cutting & splitting his own firewood and loved walking his dog every day on a four-mile loop of RT-146, Fellows Rd, and RT-236.
John attended Mass every week at St. Paul’s Church in Mechanicville, NY or St. Adalbert’s Church in Schenectady, NY.
Devoted father of John C. (Leonar Amaral) Gorcesky, the late James A. Gorcesky, and the late Jeannie E. Gorcesky, who were predeceased by their mother Gloria J. Higham Gorcesky, brother of Kenneth (Joyce) Gorcesky and Catherine “Kay” (late, Ed) Cackowski, also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited and may attend John’s Rite of Christian Burial Service and Military Honors ceremony on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Mechanicville.
John’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Grand Nursing Home for taking good care of John A. during the past ten years. John liked to be very social and enjoyed interacting with all the staff and other residents.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by John’s family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
