Obituary of John Wesley Neary
JOHN W. NEARY
June 29, 1943 - January 22, 2026
John Wesley Neary known as “Tuna” to his friends and family passed away peacefully; at age 82 on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Angelina Neary and sister, Weslee Ann McGovern.
John is survived by children, David Earl (Andrena) Neary, Angela Denise (Mark) Busacco, James Edward Neary, and Wesley Adam (Denise) Neary; sisters, Sheila (Ted) Winnowski and Elizabeth (Mark) Bourgeois; grandchildren, Leah and Erica Neary, Zoe (Todd) Consadine and Luke Busacco, Wesley John and Anna Lydia Neary; and numerous nieces and nephew.
John was born and raised in Troy, New York, where he learned the values that shaped his life—love of family, loyalty, and generosity.
He was a United States Army veteran and retired from General Electric with over 30 years of service.
An outdoorsman at heart, John found great joy in hunting and fishing. He had a lighthearted way about him and a vocabulary all his own—“do-hickey” and “whatchamacallit” were staples in his everyday conversation, usually followed by a grin. John was a generous and non judgmental father and grandfather who loved his children and grandchildren deeply. He was also a die-hard New York Yankees fan and loved going to the games. He never missed a chance to lead us in a rendition of “Take Me Out To The Ballgame”. Everyone loved Johnny and his humor and generous spirit will be remembered long after his passing. He leaves behind a legacy of people who loved him dearly.
