
Obituary of John F. Coyne, Jr.
John F. “Jack” Coyne, 87, of Troy, beloved husband for over 54 years to the late Joan McKenna Coyne, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late John F. and Susan Nelson Coyne and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Class of 1956. Jack then served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959 and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and Honorable Discharge.
Jack retired from the Ford Motor Co. in Green Island where he served as Quality Control Inspector.
Jack loved “the track” - Saratoga Race Course as well as the casino. He loved all sports, but especially football. He enjoyed playing First Base in leagues for many years at the 112th Street Softball Field in Lansingburgh. Most of all, Jack loved being “Pop” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending many of their activities to include baseball, football, hockey and lacrosse. He also loved traveling and vacationing with Joan to Las Vegas, Maine and New Jersey as well as taking cruises.
Mr. Coyne was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh. Jack has also been a member of the All-Troy Athletic Club in Lansingburgh as well as the CRAB-Garrison Post in Troy.
Devoted father of Darcy (Christopher) Cassidy, cherished grandfather “Pop” of Eric (Allison) Cassidy, Chad (Alexandra) Cassidy, Garrett (Allison Griffin) Cassidy and the late, Kyle Cassidy; adored great grandfather “Pop” to Maggie Joan, Cameron Kyle and Sophia Elizabeth Cassidy,
Relatives and friends are invited to the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182 for Visitation on Saturday, MAy 16, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and to his Mass of Christian Burial that morning which will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church, Lansingburgh.
Interment with military honors will be held in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Troy.
Darcy would like to express her sincere appreciation to everyone with Community Hospice at St. Peter’s Hospice.
