
Obituary of William T. Curley, Sr.
William T. “Bill” Curley, Sr., 77, of Troy, beloved husband for 56 years to Nancy T. Deerfield Curley, unexpectedly entered into eternal life on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy
Born in Troy, he was raised in Watervliet and was the son of the late William H. and Helen Grose Curley and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Class of 1966.
Bill served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S Army from 1967 to 1973 and earned the Sharpshooter M-16 Rifle Medal and Honorable Discharge. He continued his service with the Army Reserves and the New York Army National Guard, until retiring on February 9, 2009 and earned the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal and the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon.
Mr. Curley retired after a 40 year career with the New York State Department of Transportation in Colonie where he had been a Specification Writer.
Bill enjoyed NASCAR racing, camping in his RV, aviation – especially tracking his son Jonathan’s flights, and loved helping everyone, from his family to his friends and neighbors.
He had been a member of the former Troy Lodge of Elks #141 and was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in South Troy.
Beloved husband to Nancy, devoted father to Tansey A. (Brian Lang) Curley-Lang, William T. “Bill” (Tina Palmer) Curley, and Jonathan M. (Lindsey Godfrey) Curley, cherished “Bop Bop” of Taylor Curley, Avery (fiancé, Sarah Bourgault) Curley, Antonio Hood, Aiden Curley, Grayson Lang and Mariella Lang, adored Great “Bop Bop” to Delaney Jane Curley and Natalia Jennifer Curley, dear brother to Susan Curley, Jean (Frank) Cassino, Linda (Lawrence) Freeman, and John (Marie) Curley, also survived by several loving nieces, nephews and their families.
Relatives and friends are invited to St. Joseph’s Church, 416 Third St. (at the corner of Jackson St.) Troy, NY 12180 on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 for Calling Hours from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and for the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m.
Interment with military honors will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY 12871.
The Curley family would like to express their appreciation to the Troy Fire Department paramedics as well as to the staff at the Samaritan Hospital Emergency Room for their care.
