
Obituary of Hazel H. Farrell
Hazel H. Bruce Farrell, 96, of Brunswick, formerly of Bowman, South Carolina, peacefully entered eternal life surrounded by her loving family at home on Friday, July 10, 2026.
Born in Bowman, SC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Verneta Summers Bruce and was a graduate of Wilkinson High School. She was the wife of the late Robert T. Farrell.
Mrs. Farrell worked for the University of Albany for 24 years. She was a secretary in the English Department and Librarian for the Department Graduate Library.
Hazel enjoyed traveling, food, and learning, and especially loved spending time with her sisters and family.
She was a member of the 1st United Presbyterian Church (formerly Oakwood Avenue Presbyterian Church) as well as St. Michael United Methodist Church.
Hazel was a Charter Member of Mt. Moriah Chapter #75, Order of the Eastern Star, Troy, New York. She was a member of the Golden Circle, Capital District Assembly #60. She was also a Charter Member of the Galilee Court #14, Order of the Cyrenes.
Hazel was the beloved mother to Vera Y. (Julie Clayton) Farrell and loving sister to Alma Bruce El and Martha Bruce Kennedy. She is survived by these nieces and nephews: Nathan Williams, Howard (Frankie) Williams, Patrica Bruce El, Clary (Shellie) Robinson, Ronald (Deborah) Kennedy, Lenell Kennedy, Delores Ross, Paul Ross, Ruth Gadsden, Ramona Jacobs, and many grand nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by siblings Myrtle Elizabeth Ross, Primus Jenkins Bruce “PJ”, Thomas Bruce, Jr., LeRoy Israel Bruce, Hubert Jeremiah Bruce, and Emily Bruce Williams.
Relatives and friends are invited to the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182 on Saturday, July 25, 2026, for funeral services between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
