ALETHA “JOANN” JOHNSON DAVIS

**I’m Free, I’m free, Praise the Lord, I’m Free. No longer bound, No more chains holding me. My Soul is resting. It’s just a blessing. Praise the Lord, Hallelujah, I’m free!**

Aletha “Joann” Johnson Davis, age 77, passed away July 25, 2026 in Troy, New York. Joann was born on May 5, 1949 in Myrtle Beach “Burgess” South Carolina, daughter of the late Rubin and Geretha Johnson.

At an early age, Aletha accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, beginning a lifelong journey of faith that guided her words, actions and love for others. Aletha graduated from Whittemore High School in Conway South Carolina in 1968. Aletha had a passion for baking, enjoyed working on puzzles and loved talking with people. Her warm, friendly spirit and genuine conversations brought joy to everyone she met. Aletha also served on the Missionary Board.

Aletha dedicated 25 years of service to South Co before beginning a career with Troy School District. She faithfully served there until her retirement, earning the respect and appreciation of her colleagues through her hardship, commitment and caring nature.

Joann was preceded in death by her late husband Joseph Davis, her sister Eva Mary and brothers William “Buddy”, James “Weldon” and Luther Johnson.

Joann is survived by her devoted son, Daryl B. Davis (Tamiko) her cherished granddaughter, Asiyah Davis; three sisters, Rosa Lee Holmes, Lillie Lomax (Clarence) of Troy, New York and Alma Jean Green (Jerome) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two brothers Casey Johnson, Sr. (Alphateen) of New York and Rubin Johnson, Jr. (Shirley) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; four sister-in-laws Lottie M Hilton, Beatrice Davis, Etha M Davis, and Jackie Davis; one brother-in-law Nathaniel Davis; beloved godson Corey E. Lomax and her dear companion and friend Orion Tisdale. She also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

“My sister Joann and I always talked about things and helped each other through life’s challenges. Whenever something went wrong, we would lean on one another and help each other make decisions. We enjoyed shopping together and sharing special moments. When Joann became ill, I was honored to care for her. I loved my sister dearly and will miss her more than words can say.”

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Visitation on Monday, August 3, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Fifth Avenue, A.M.E, Zion Church, 189 Fifth Avenue, Troy, NY 12180 where at 11:00 a.m. the Home Going Service will be celebrated by Rev. Victor R. Patterson, MDIV., Pastor.

Interment will follow in Memory’s Garden, Colonie.
