John B. Osterholt, 82, of Clifton Park, beloved husband for 54 years to Jean E. Fall Osterholt, peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY. 

Born in Paterson, New Jersey, John was the son of the late John and Lena Klein Osterholt. He graduated from Midland Park High School and earned an Associate’s Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Mr. Osterholt proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965, with an additional three years in the reserves. He was a photographer for General Creighton Abrams and was awarded the Sharpshooter (Rifle, M-14) medals and an Honorable Discharge.

Beloved husband to Jean, devoted father to Jennifer (Peter) Liotino, Christine (Bill) Null, John Winfield Osterholt, Jeffrey Tyler Osterholt, and the late Scott Gregory Osterholt, cherished grandfather of PJ, Sofia, Aidan, and Liam, brother of Doris (Guenter) Hohmann and the late Arlene Blom, also survived by many nieces and nephews.

John was retired from Amtrak in Rensselaer where he had been a Purchasing Manager for 30 years. 

He enjoyed ATVing, hunting at his camp, fishing, boating on Lake George, camping, and driving along country roads. He also loved traveling, watching John Wayne movies, playing games, and trying new restaurants.

One of his favorite things was spending time with his grandchildren, especially playing Angry Birds with them.

John had been a member of the Elks Lodge in Clifton Park for almost 20 years where he enjoyed playing darts and horseshoes. 

A Memorial Service will be held for family and friends on Friday September 11 at 12 p.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 912 RT-146, Clifton Park, NY 12065, with luncheon to follow.

A private military honors ceremony will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY 12871.

Those who wish to honor John B. Osterholt’s memory may make memorial contributions to the Elks Lodge 2466 in Clifton Park.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
