Obituary of Catherine Gardner

Mother Catherine Gardner, 85, of Troy, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, August 23, 2026

Born and educated in Glennville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Hazel Frazier and Martha Lee Hargrove Frazier and was the beloved wife of the late Freddie Gardner.

Mrs. Gardner had been a CNA at Evergreen Commons Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in East Greenbush and previously at Eden Park Nursing Home in Troy. She had also previously been employed at General Electric Silicones Division in Waterford.

Catherine enjoyed cooking, going out to eat, especially on Mother’s Day with her sister Earnestine Ross and Earnestine’s daughter Henrietta Edge. Catherine was known to enjoy games of chance, the casino and OTB.

Mother Gardner was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years.

Beloved mother of Freddie Gardner, Jr., Vern Gardner, Louis Frazier, Joseph Gardner, Hope (Wesley) Reed and Christine Gardner, loving sister of Bobby, Raleigh and Johnnie Frazier, Celia Holmes and Dorothy Lewis,  cherished grandmother of Kaytrina Reed, Valanda Dennis, Wesley Reed, Vershun Reed, Ashaima Dennis and Kasha Dennis, adored great grandmother of Kaylon Dickson, Kayontay Perdue, Kayjohna Dickson, Nevaeh Dickson, Leyonie Reed, Nahvion Dickson, Nayshon Reed, Nameiah Reed, Ronald Nelson, III, Javion Reed and Vershun Reed, Jr., proud great-great grandmother of Cyorie Compton and Saryla Dickson, also survived by her dearest friend Theresa Blankenship, also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and their families, relatives, friends and others whose lives she touched.

She was predeceased by Earnestine Ross, Robert Lee Redding, Freeman, Raymond, Sam, Warren, Winnie and Barbara Ann Frazier.

Relatives and friends are invited to Mother Gardner’s Visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026 and to her Home Going Service beginning at 11:00 a.m. that morning, all in the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115^th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182

Mother Gardner’s family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to all of those who have provided love and comfort to the family as well as to the nurses at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.
