Obituary of Roman W. Kutzer

Roman W. Kutzer, 73, of Troy, beloved husband for 40 years to Carla A. Servedio Kutzer, peacefully entered into eternal life at home on Friday, August 28, 2026.

Born in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late William and Rose Klem Kutzer. Raised in Wynantskill, he was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Class of 1971, Hudson Valley Community College, and the University at Albany where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business. Roman was employed by the New York Lottery, a career he thoroughly enjoyed before retiring.

An avid golfer and passionate sports fan, Roman rarely missed cheering on the New York Yankees and New York Giants or listening to The Michael Kay Show. He also had an undeniable enthusiasm for all things pop culture and was always ready to discuss the latest entertainment news.

Roman was deeply proud of his Ukrainian heritage and treasured his annual vacations to Wildwood, New Jersey, a beloved Kutzer tradition for more than 25 years. Above all else, Roman was a devoted family man. His greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved, especially his children, Erik and Karissa, who brought him happiness every single day. He took immense pride in their accomplishments, supported them unconditionally, and cherished every opportunity to celebrate their successes and milestones. His love for his family was evident in everything he did and will remain one of his most enduring legacies.

Roman was a beloved husband to Carla, devoted and proud father of Erik W. Kutzer (Sara Seijas) of Dallas, TX, and Karissa M. Kutzer (Daniel Danahy) of Troy, loving brother of Irene (Kevin) Griffith of Bradenton, Fla., the late Peter (Olenka) Kutzer of Troy, William M. Kutzer of Wynantskill, and Stefanie (Anthony) Micare of Halfmoon; brother-in-law to Tami (late, Michael) Harrington and the late Christopher Servedio, also survived by one aunt, several nieces and nephews and their families, as well as cousins and their families.

Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc, (Corner of 115^th Street and Fourth Avenue) in Lansingburgh on Friday morning September 4, 2026, from 9 to 11 a.m. where at 11 a.m. the Panachyda will be celebrated. The Funeral Liturgy will follow at Noon that day at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 2410 Fourth Avenue, Watervliet, NY 12189.

Interment will be held in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Colonie.    

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105, in memory of Roman W. Kutzer.
