Obituary of David William Stadel

David William Stadel, 79, of Evergreen Terrace and former Grand Island, N.Y. and Stillwater, Okla. resident, passed away on December 16 at Saratoga Hospital. He was born on July 29, 1941 in Binghamton, N.Y. and was the son of the late Richard and Katherine Schad Stadel and the spouse of the former Judith Anne Stadel (Benedict) to whom he was married on November 25, 1964. He was a graduate of Vestal High School, Broome Community College, and Oklahoma State University. In his professional life, David held executive positions as an expert in fire protection, environmental health & safety, risk management, occupational safety, workers compensation risk management and related areas. David's special interests outside work were many. As a young man, David was a volunteer firefighter in Vestal, NY, and he told stories of driving the multiple gear firetrucks up and down the steep hills in Vestal. Later, he served as an advisor to the fire department in Niagara Falls. He was also involved with various youth activities in several communities including Boy Scouts, football and baseball. He most recently served as the Chairperson of the Longkill 1 Park District Advisory Committee for the Town of Clifton Park, a post which he held for many years. He spent many years carefully and skillfully preparing and coordinating the use of the baseball fields at the Martin Jewett (Longkill) Park. Later in life he earned his pilot’s license, as well as his Lighter than Air Certificate, and was an active hot air balloon pilot. He is survived by his significant other Mary Jo White; his children, Brenda (Michael) Gibbs of Clifton Park, John (Tracy) Stadel of Schuylerville, Debra (Christopher) Wilper of West Henrietta, Rebecca (Kyle) Binney of Connecticut, and Andrew (Holly) Stadel of Clifton Park; his sister Sharon (David) Kitchie; and ten grandchildren. He is also survived by two nephews. Services will be private for the family. Public services will be announced at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Jonesville Volunteer Fire Co., 953 Main Street, Jonesville Clifton Park, NY 12065, Ballston Lake Volunteer Ambulance Service, 1123 Rt. 146-A, Ballston Lake, NY 12019 or to a youth organization of one's choice.
