Obituary of Joseph Durivage, Jr.

Joseph George Durivage, Jr., age 66, residing in Conway, SC hit his final grand slam all the way to heaven, surrounded by his loved ones cheering him on in the final inning on February 20th, 2021.

 

Joey, Joe, Dad, DJ Joe, Coach D, and Papi. This is how we knew him and this is how we will remember him. He was a self-made man, always carving out his own path in life and as he would often like to say, he did it “My Way.”

 

Joe had three big loves throughout his life. Music, Sports and Family.

 

“DJ Joe” was passionate about music from a young age. He played the keyboard and sang in the band, Three’s Company. He even had groupie’s! Joe shared his love for music all throughout his life, always quick with a smile to play your favorite request. He was the owner of Myrtle Beach DJ’s bringing music, love, laughter and a whole lot of dancing to weddings, birthdays, parties, holidays and of course, his famous “pool parties” up and down the Grand Strand of South Carolina.

 

“Coach D” loved his New York Yankees, no doubt about that. From collecting baseball cards throughout his whole life to naming his son after Mickey Mantle, he was a true blue fan to the end. His love for sports extended beyond the blue and white pinstripes. He coached thousands of kids in baseball, basketball, and soccer and we would be remiss if we did not acknowledge all of the times he embarrassed his own kids and grandkids from the sidelines over the years.

 

At the end of the day, being with his family is where “Dad and Papi” hung his hat. From crazy family vacations in an RV, to Beach Boy concerts, WWF matches and Disney trips, to swimming with his grandkids in the pool, he did it all for those he loved the most. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Angela (Camprone) and together they created a warm, welcoming, and loving home.

 

He is also survived by his parents, Joseph George Durivage, Sr. and Patricia Durivage (Esposito) of Troy, NY;

Daughter Jessica Kerridge (husband, Carl) of Myrtle Beach, SC;

Son Mickey Durivage, wife, Maribeth (Ramos) of Sloatsburg, NY;

Step-sons John Carroll of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Christopher Carroll (predeceased);

Daughter Danielle Durivage of Conway, SC;

Blessed joys of his life, granddaughter LeeAnn Tiffany and his grandsons Brandon Johnson and Ellis Kerridge;

Brothers Ronald Durivage, wife, Gayle (Coleman) of Troy, NY; Kenneth Durivage, wife, Rose (Barba); Robert Durivage, wife, Diane (Lang) and Sisters Marie Schongar, husband, Michael, and Susan O’Connell, husband, Thomas, of Troy, NY.

Brothers-in-law Michael Camprone, wife, Patricia (Ryan) and Anthony Camprone, wife, Sheri (McGuirk) of Troy, NY;

Sister-in-law Gina Vincent (husband, Robert) of Hollis, Maine;

And more Uncles, Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends to count.

 

Joe graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy, NY in 1972. He received his Associates Degree from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY. He worked for Prudential and Sysco Foods in Troy, NY before moving to Myrtle Beach, SC in 1995 where he continued his career in the food industry with Sysco and Davinci Foods before pursuing his music business full-time.

 

Our love for Joe will live on in our hearts forever.

A grave service Celebrating Joe’s Life will be held on August 14, 2021 at 11:00 am in St. Joseph's Cemetery, 156 Mann Avenue in South Troy, NY.

THE DASH

The poem by Linda Ellis:

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning… to the end.

He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke of the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time they spent alive on earth and now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own, the cars… the house… the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard; are there things you’d like to change? For you never know how much time is left that still can be rearranged.

To be less quick to anger and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we’ve never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile… remembering that this special dash might only last a little while.

So when your eulogy is being read, with your life’s actions to rehash, would you be proud of the things they say about how you lived your dash?

 

 

2 Timothy 4:7-8

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
