Obituary of Ira James Meredith

Please share a memory of Ira to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Ira James Meredith “Jim,” 80, of Halfmoon passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 24, 2021 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judith A.Meredith, their three children and their spouses: Michael and his wife Hilary of Manhattan, Christopher and his wife Laurel of Chappaqua, Jennifer and her husband Darius of East Aurora, and seven grandchildren: Natalie, Gabriel, Ella, Grace, Farrah, Alice and James, along with his two sisters Peggy and Kathy, and a loyal sheep dog named Daisy.

Born in Los Angeles, CA on March 11, 1941, he was the son of the late Ira Sr. and Dora Bell Meredith. Jim began life prematurely, weighing 2 ½ pounds, and survived childhood Polio. Towards the end of World War II, his family moved to Idaho, where he graduated from Pocatello High School. From 1959 to 1963, Jim served in the US. Navy during the Bay of Pigs and Cuban Missile Crisis, earning the Good Conduct Medal, and Honorable Discharge from reserve obligation in 1965. He went on to Utah State University where he met his wife and earned his BS in Electrical Engineering. After graduating, Jim worked at General Electric Co. where he had been the Director of Information Systems. He retired in 1997 after 30 years.

He loved his family, the outdoors, travel, camping, cooking, gardening, history, framing his wife’s paintings, sudoku, reading, and fly fishing. He was an avid skier for over 70 years, a passion that he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He would take his family skiing every weekend there was snow on the ground. In the summers he enjoyed spending time at Lake George and being a member of The Edison Club, and golfed in their Men’s League and had a Hole-In-One.

It is impossible to describe everything Jim has given to those around him, there is too much. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, enthusiasm for life, hard work, love and dedication to his family, and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services are private and will be held for the family at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
