Obituary of John J. Smith

John J. “Jack” Smith , 92, of Stony Creek,  NY passed away on November 3, 2021. Jack was born in 1929 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in South Troy, resided in Halfmoon for many years, then retired to Stony Creek, NY.  He was a graduate of Watervliet High School class of 1947 and was employed primarily as a machinist for Bendix of Green Island.  He served honorably overseas as a cryptographer in the US Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War. Any free time was spent with his friends at the Polaris Mountain Club in Newcomb NY as well as being an active member of the American Legion Mohawk Post 1450 in Halfmoon. NY   Jack was also a volunteer fireman for Halfmoon Hose Company.   He was Pre-deceased by his wife , Jean M. Sullivan and his eldest son Stephen J. Smith of Halfmoon. 

 

Jack is survived by his children, Gary P. Smith of Cherry Valley, MA, Michael J. Smith of Tom’s River,  NJ, Amy J. Proctor (Edmund) of Brunswick, NY and Matthew A. Smith of Saratoga, NY.  He is also survived by several grandchildren.

 

He treasured spending time on the “farm” in Brunswick, playing cards and enjoying the sunshine on the porch.

 

Memorial services and celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Saturday Nov. 13, 2021 at 12:30 pm in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.

 

Calling hours will be from 11:00 am -12:30pm Saturday in the funeral home, prior to the service.
