Obituary of Frederick J. Short

Frederick J. “Fred” Short, of Ballston Lake passed away peacefully with his loving family around him on Friday, Dec. 10, 2021 from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease. He was 87 years old. Fred was born in Ogdensburg, NY (St. Lawrence County) on October 22, 1934, the son of Earl J. and Thelma (Dawley) Short. He graduated from Madrid Central School, where he was involved in Future Farmers of America (FFA), and band. Following graduation he assisted his father in the operation of the family dairy farm, until 1965 when the family sold the farm. In January of 1958, he went on a blind date arranged through his cousin and met the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, Mickey. He proposed in 1960 and they were married in August of 1961 and he spent the past 60 years in a supportive and loving marriage. In 1966 he and Mickey relocated to the Capital District to be closer to her family. He was a resident of Clifton Park for the past 48 years. At that time he went to work at Colonie Center in the maintenance Dept. Eventually obtaining the position chief engineer. Fred retired in 1999 after 33 years of service. He was a loving and involved father to their two sons. One of his greatest joys of his life was the care of his family and home. Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed bowling, golf, bocce and family gatherings. He was a devoted husband and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mickey; his loving sons, David (Jill) Short of Utica, NY, Robert (Trevor) Short of Ballston Lake, NY; his sister, Mary Jane Putman of Syracuse, NY; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. He was loved and respected by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Byron.
Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am at Corpus Christi Church in Ushers, NY where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 pm Tuesday in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.
Entombment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, NY.

For all services masks (facial coverings) are required. A luncheon will follow the interment, please bring proof of vaccination.
