Obituary of Harold D. Parkes
Harold D. Parkes, age 93 of Troy, NY, entered into eternal rest on January 17, 2022.
Harold was born in Watervliet, NY on January 19, 1928 and was the son of the late Dudley C. Parkes and Ethel E. Parkes. Harold was a graduate of Watervliet High School. Upon graduation from High School, Harold enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in the Navy Department in Washington D.C. for four years and then aboard the destroyer USS Caperton DD 650 for one year.
He married Mary T Comfrey on September 8, 1962 and they were married for 36 years until her passing in 1998. Harold was a graduate of Russell Sage Evening Division College and was employed by Allegheny Ludlum Steel (Al Tech Specialty Steel Corporation) as an Industrial Engineer and was promoted to manager of their Human Rights Division. He retired in 1992.
Harold was a member of the Watervliet Elks Lodge #1500 for over 60 years and served as their lodge Chaplin and lodge Esquire for several years. He also served on their Bingo Committee, House Committee and was Chairman of the Sickness and Distress Committee. Harold was a life member of the Watervliet V.F.W Post, American Legion Post, Veterans of Lansingburgh Post, Apollo-King Solomon Lodge No. 0013 of Troy, NY and Watervliet Senior Citizens Center.
Harold was predeceased by his sister Iris (Robert) Lorimer, niece Carole (Mark) Gauger of Harwinton, CT .
He is survived by his niece Jan (Jim) Murton of East Vassalboro Maine, Grand nephew Alvah Maloney (Kelly) of Unity Maine, Grand nieces Shawna (Chris) Johnson of Orange CT, and Brittany (Lev) Mayzler of Orange CT and his Great nieces Sydney, Adley, Maris and Great nephews Chase and Spencer.
The family would like to thank all of the Hospice caregivers and a special thank you to Wendy, Larry and Brian.
Instead of flowers please make a donation in his memory to the Watervliet Elks Club.
A wake for Harold will be Saturday February 5, 2022 from 9:00-11:00 am at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (Corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182 with burial to directly follow with military honors at St. John’s Cemetery in Lansingburgh.
