Condolences and prayers of support to Susan, Heather and other members of John's extended family. The Bellingham High School Class of 1959 is saddened by the untimely passing of our friend and classmate.John Caufman. I, and former shipmates of the Bellingham Sea Scout ship, "Discovery" are deeply saddened. We shared our teenage years and incredible adventures, operating a 76 foot, wooden hulled ship among the San Juan Islands of Northwest Washington from Seattle to deep into the fjords of British Columbia, Canada. I was privileged to share, music, art, military history and the love of Mad magazine with John. John gifted me a beautiful oil painting of the flag raising on Iwo Jima several years ago. As a retired Marine, it is a treasure beyond words, and hangs proudly in my home. John, you are sorely missed, but we feel blessed to have shared a part of life's journey and you are remembered fondly.. Rest easy, fellow veteran, we have the watch. Major Mike Wifler, USMC (Ret)
