Obituary of Joseph Grant Mount

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joseph Grant Mount, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends on December 13, 2022.

Joe was born on July 18, 1928 in Schenectady, New York to Grant and Marguerite “Peg” Mount.  He married the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” Mount on February 7, 1959.

Joe “Gramps” was an incredible husband, father, grandfather and friend.  His calm demeanor and wry, sometimes goofy sense of humor was a unique combination and he made fast friends wherever he went.

Joe is passionate and resilient.  He persevered with determination and grit despite many hardships including the loss of his father, Grant when he was a boy.  Joe worked at the local pharmacy while going to high school to help his mother make ends meet.  He survived scarlet fever and was drafted into the Army during the Korean War and served at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.  He was driven to honor his father and worked hard to get his college degree at Union College of Pharmacy.  He worked for Abbott Laboratories for 35 years in pharmaceutical sales covering a large territory in upstate New York.  Joe loved his New York sports teams the Giants and Mets and celebrated his 94th birthday and first Mets game at Citi Field with family and friends.

He loved Silver Bay in Lake George and spent many summers there teaching Kristin and Susan to waterski and sail. Joe was an avid speed skater and competed professionally well into his eighties. Joe also enjoyed golfing, his rifle club, playing pool and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. A little known fact were his expert skills at yo-yo where he won several championships as a child.

Joe is survived by his two daughters and their husbands Kristin and Greg Herrera and Susan and Harvey Spencer; grandchildren, Gregory Herrera, Sarah Spencer and Jessica Spencer.  He was predeceased by his mother, Marguerite “Peg” Keller, his step father, Francis “Skip” Keller, his father, Grant Mount and his sister, Dora “Betty” Mount.

Please join us in celebrating his life Saturday morning December 17, 2022 between 9:30 a.m. and  10:30 a.m. with a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9 in Clifton Park. Interment will follow in Parkview Cemetery, Schenectady, NY.
