Obituary of Charles Robert Suggs

Charles Robert Suggs (Bob), 93, of Lawrence Street in Saratoga, passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 1st, 2023 at Saratoga Hospital. He was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma on Nov. 27, 1929 and was the son of the late Cecil and Ruby Coin Suggs. He started working at Foley’s of Houston at the young age of 13. He graduated high school in the top of his class and went off to graduate from the University of Houston. He married his high school sweetheart Barbara Abraham in 1950. He was soon called to serve his country as an officer in the Korean War. Upon returning, he returned to Foley’s which launched his career as a retail buyer. Over the years, in addition to Foley’s, he worked at Frost Brother’s in San Antonio, I. Miller in New York City, and Cohoes Specialty Stores in Cohoes, NY. He retired in 1993 and found his passion in art and gardening. He was a long time member of the local Hosta society.

He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Abraham Suggs; father of Kathy (Robert) Van Patten of Jonesville; grandfather of Justin (Deborah) Van Patten, Kristin (Robin) Van Patten and Andrew (Kelly) Van Patten; great grandfather of Reed, Rian, Arlo, Finley and Avery Van Patten. He cared for Barbara during her long illness, served as the family patriarch, and cherished his role as husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He had a wonderful positive outlook on life, approaching every obstacle with resilience and perseverance.

Funeral service and interment will be private for the family at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with full military honors being given by the United States Army.
