Obituary of Ronald P. Riel

Ronald P. “Ron” Riel, 87, of Halfmoon, formerly of Brunswick and Troy, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.

Born in Cohoes, NY, he was the son of the late Dieudonne and Jeanne Hamelin Riel, was a graduate of Keveny Memorial Academy in Cohoes and served in the NYS Army National Gaurd for 8 years.

Ron retired from the NYS Office of General Services in Albany and was previously employed at Behr-Manning (Norton Co.).

He loved hockey, taking his grandson to his hockey games, playing cards, darts, bowling, going to the casino, vacationing in Ft. Lauderdale and his grand pup Willow.

Beloved husband for 65 years to Nancy T. Farina Riel, devoted father of Mark Riel (Jackie Daurio), Terri Riel (Charlie Starr)and Nicole Rankin (late, Terry), brother of Roger Riel and the late Reina Lyman, cherished grandfather of Alex Verchereau (Gabby), adored great grandfather of Archer Verchereau, also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Ron’s wishes, there are no public services.

Private funeral arrangemetns have been entrusted by the family to the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue, Troy, NY 12182.

The Riel family wishes to express their most sincere appreciation to the nurses, doctors and staff in the PCU and ICU at Samaritan Hospital for their loving care.
