Obituary of Shirley C. VanTine

Shirley C. VanTine, 87, of Lawrence Street passed away peacefully on Wednesday Aug. 30, 2023 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by family.  She was born on August 25, 1936 in Verona, PA and was the daughter of the late Cyril and Ella Mae Smail Clark.  Shirley was a graduate of Penn Hills High School and attended N. Adams State College.  She was the beloved wife of Carl K. VanTine, whom she married on Aug. 24, 1957.  They just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.  In Shirley’s early years, she was a bookkeeper for the Berkshire Life Ins. Co. in Pittsburgh.  She then went to work in their Pittsfield office.  Following this Shirley was the secretary of the Dalton Community Center in Dalton, MA.  Very talented in many ways, Shirley was the Artistic Director for the Annual Variety Show, sponsored by the Dalton Rotary Club with the shows being held in the Dalton High School.  In 1974, she and her husband joined the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church in Clifton Park and became extremely active.  She was a member and treasurer for the United Methodist Women, and also financial secretary of the church.  For years, Shirley ran the Book Nook of the Church Fair.  She created the current church data base and was a member of the Over the Speed Limit group.  Shirley helped organize the 1st Clifton Park July 4th Parade and Celebration event in the Town. She was an accomplished seamstress, knitter and crocheter along with quilting and needlepoint.  She was a proud member of the P. Buckley Moss Society.

 

Survived by her beloved husband Carl, devoted mother of Chrystopher K. (Deborah) VanTine of Clifton Park, NY and the late Cheryl A. Horn (Malcolm) and Melanie V. Stevenson (Gregory);  sister of the late Joseph and William Clark; grandmother of Justine Claypoole, Dennis “JR” Cox, Rebecca “Becky” Horn, Ariel Horn, James “Jimmy” C. Stevenson, William “Willy” R. Stevenson, Taylor M. VanTine and Cooper K. VanTine; great grandmother of Madison “Maddy” Ewing, Dennis “DJ”  Ewing, Landon Cox and Emma Cox; Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

 

In Continuance of Shirley's generosity, she made organ donations to the Center For Transplant.

 

Funeral service will be held on Saturday Sept. 16th, 2023 at 11:00 am at Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, 971 Rt. 146 Clifton Park, NY 12065.

 

Calling hours will be from 4-7 pm Friday Sept. 15th, 2023 in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Shenendehowa United Methodist Church.
