Dailey, Eugene E.

Gene Dailey passed away at peace surrounded by his family on September 14th, 2023. Born on June 6, 1931 in Albany, the son of Veronica (Clancy) and George Dailey, Sr., Gene spent his life in the Capital Region area. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Joan (Boland), his parents, his brothers Ed (Pat) and George, and his grandson Christopher Gene.

Gene’s 40+ year career was with General Electric in Schenectady, NY as an Employee Relations Manager, Gas Turbine division.  After semi-retiring, he continued to work for GE, running their placement center.

Husband, Father, Uncle, Brother, Friend, Gene held onto his independence as long as he could until he was into his 90’s. He was a full-time supporter of his 4 children, working with Joan, to guide them through adolescence, college and career aspirations. Dad chronicled the family vacations from driving to Colorado, the New Jersey shore and multiple day trips in the capital region! Dad took care of logistics and Mom packed the picnic lunches. In retirement, Gene and Joan helped out with the grandchildren, with after school activities, attending births, ballgames and birthdays, and enjoying celebrations and so many, many holidays. Nieces and nephews provided stories telling of how Uncle Gene had helped them through a trying period. His many friends knew an easy conversation awaited them on a call or social visit with Gene.

Gene and Joan valued their active social lives in retirement, with their cherished friends including; the Sheehy’s and McCurry’s, the Moran’s and Clum’s, and their many acquaintances in Hutchinson Island, Florida. Gene often took responsibility for planning the details of their outings, working in time for refreshments and comradery. After Joan’s passing, Gene continued on his own at Preswick Chase in Saratoga Springs.

Gene’s steadfast love and inherent warmth will be missed by his devoted children including; Bryan (Marybeth) Dailey, Delmar, Mark (Maria) Dailey, Saratoga, Timothy, (Kim) Dailey, Jacksonville, FL and his loving daughter Maureen, (Brad) Kabanuk, Saratoga, his Grandchildren; Laura Rose, Jessica (Dominic), Erica (Robert), Brendan, Max, Grace, Connor, Sean and Danielle, his brother Gordon (Barb) and his sister-in law, Teresa. His nieces and nephews on the Dailey and Boland side will also miss their Uncle Gene.
