Linda J. Whalen, 72, of Halfmoon, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 5, 2024 at Ellis Hospital after a brief Illness.  She was born in the Bronx on June 6, 1951 and was the daughter of Wilborne Smithie of Ft. Pierce, FL and the late Evelyn Denner Smithie.  She was a graduate of St. Francis Grammar School in the Bronx, Mahopac High School and Ulster Community College.  Linda retired as the assistant to the President of UBS Bank in Manhattan.  Earlier she had lived in Katonah and Newburgh, NY, where she was an active volunteer in the communities.    She and the family enjoyed summering at the family cabin on Schroon Lake, in the Adirondacks.  She had been a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Crescent.

She is the beloved wife of William H. Whalen, III whom she married on May 13, 1972; devoted mother of Billy (Rachael) Whalen, IV and Sara (Gabe) White; cherished and much loved grandmother of Ian, Veda, Billy and Ryan; sister of Steven Smithie and the late Peter Smithie; also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Funeral will be held on Monday at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church in Crescent, 86 Church Hill Rd. Waterford, NY 12188. 

Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.
