Obituary of Frank J. Ares

Frank J. Ares, recently of Delmar, passed away on Wednesday, March 27 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing center. He was born on December 23, 1929 in the Bronx, New York, and was the son of Manuel and Jennie Ares (Soto). Frank attended New York City schools, graduating high school from the New York School of Printing. He began his work life at Pelzer Printers and Stationers in lower Manhattan, eventually becoming a teacher of lithographic printing at the Edward J. Milliken Technical Center on Long Island, retiring in 1990.

Frank proudly served in the New York Army National Guard, 42nd Division, 105th Artillery, for 38 years, ending his career as a Sergeant Major. For several of those years he served as an instructor at the Empire State Military Academy at Camp Smith.

A man of many interests, Frank was most fond of fishing, surf-casting off Jones Beach or dropping his line off the pier at Sanibel Island, Florida. He was interested in cuisines from all over the world, cooking many gourmet meals for friends and family. He embodied the idea of lifelong learning.

Frank was predeceased by his wife, Sharyn F. Ares (Frischer), daughter Amanda Ares Wasilewicz, and brother Albert Ares. He is survived by his daughters Melissa Borys (Ted) of Berne, NY and Jennifer Oceana Seer (Paul) of Portland, OR. Frank is also survived by his granddaughters Tasha Borys (Chris Winter) of Brooklyn, Leda Borys (Maggie O’Brien) of Palmer, Alaska and Hope Seer of Portland. Lastly, he is survived by his great-grandson, Cameron Theodor Winter. Also surviving are sister-in-law Maria Ares and niece and nephew, Susan and Keith Ares. Frank will be sorely missed by dear family friends, the Abads and Richie Carr a close friend from his teaching days.

A memorial service to honor Frank’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 2nd at 11am at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.  There will be a visiting hour with Frank’s family from 10am to 11am in the funeral home. A committal service with full military honors will follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
