Obituary of Warren Francis Rigney

Lansingburgh, New York

Warren Francis Rigney, 79, passed away on November 10, 2024 at Rosewood Rehab and Nursing Facility in Rensselaer, NY after a brief illness.

Born on October 13, 1945, in Cohoes, NY, he was the son of the late Edmund and Mary (Domay) Rigney. Warren grew up in Cohoes and attended St. Agnes Catholic School and, subsequently, Cohoes High School, graduating in 1963.

He met the love of his life, Carol, in high school. They subsequently married in 1965 and remained married until her death in 2018. He served in the US Army in the mid-1960s, first stationed in Korea and later, Fort Bragg in North Carolina before returning home to Cohoes, NY. Upon his return, Warren worked for Ford Motor Company at the now-defunct plant in Green Island, NY for close to 20 years.

Warren was a man that loved a good joke and loved to laugh, always making sure to make others laugh, too. He also had a talent for telling ghost stories. Among his hobbies, he enjoyed bowling and camping. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants, through thick and thin [even if he would say mostly thin for the last few years!]. He was also a fan of country music, especially Carrie Underwood, as well as Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. He also loved to draw in his youth.

Warren and Carol loved to go all out for the holidays, where family gatherings were plentiful – be it the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, or Christmas – and always fun. He was often hailed for his barbecuing skills during the summer get togethers.

Warren was a parishioner of the former St. Agnes Church in Cohoes as a boy and would later attend the former St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, also in Cohoes, upon his marriage.

He was also a survivor, having beaten both lung cancer and, years later, prostate cancer.

Most of all, Warren was a devoted husband to Carol and father to their three children, including sons W. Christopher Rigney (Sandi Tucker) of Darrington, Washington, and Brian M. Rigney of Troy, NY, as well as his daughter, Wendy C. Rigney, also from Troy, NY. He also leaves behind a beloved grandson, Brandon M. Cahrenger (Dani Brennan), of Troy, NY, in addition to numerous extended family members. He was not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve and always made sure that his family knew that they were loved.

Warren was the youngest of six children and was predeceased by his brothers Robert, James, Donald, and Alden Rigney as well as his sister, Marion Willetts.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning, November 16, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh followed by interment with military honors in St. Agnes Cemetery in Cohoes.

Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours on Friday, November 15, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115^th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182.

Warren’s children would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Rosewood for their care towards their father during his final months.
