Obituary of Jack A. Hurley
Jack A. Hurley, 82, of Hurley Road, Melrose (Town of Schaghticoke), beloved husband for 53 years to Mary Jarvis Hurley, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
Born in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Harry A. and Anne Anderson Hurley, was educated in the Lansingburgh schools, graduated from Lansingburgh High School and Hudson Valley Community College, where he earned his A.A.S. in Automotive Technology. Jack also served in the U.S Navy with the Seabees.
As a young boy, Jack worked alongside his father at Hurley’s Garage in Melrose. Jack continued to build the business adding body work and heavy-duty towing. Matthew, Jack’s son also worked for the business and upon Jack’s retirement, became the third generation owner of the garage and 24/7 towing operation.
Jack was a Life Member and Past President of the Melrose Volunteer Fire Co., and a member of the Veterans of Lansingburgh. Jack loved his home (both in New York and in Bonita Springs, Florida), spending time with his grandchildren, surfing Facebook Marketplace and Amazon, traveling across the country in his motorhome, camping at Rogers Rock in Lake George, classic cars, but above all else, he loved his family.
Beloved husband to Mary, devoted father of Patricia Hurley-Dyer and Matthew (Tiffany) Hurley, cherished grandfather, “Peep” & “Popi” to Darren P. Dyer, Jr., Estelle Hurley and Jackson Hurley, dear brother of Linda Labrum (Douglas D’Addario), also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Jack’s Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. in the White-Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 58 Leversee Rd. (RT-40 in Speigletown) Troy, NY 12182.
Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours in the funeral home on Friday, November 29, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Interment with military honors will be held in St. John’s Cemetery, Schaghticoke, following the service.
Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to the charity of their choice in memory of Jack A. Hurley.
