Obituary of Marcia J. Brown

Please share a memory of Marcia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marcia J. (Kaigler) Brown, 82, passed away on Friday, December 20. She was born on November 30, 1942 to Robert and Helene (Deedee) Kaigler in Albany, N.Y., and was a lifelong Capital District resident. Marcia was a graduate of Albany High School, Class of 1960, and later in life went back to school, graduating with a bachelor's degree from the University at Albany. She worked for New York State for many years, as well as for Kling & Associates.

Marcia was predeceased last April by her husband J. Lawson Brown, Sr. She is survived by her son Matthew, her step-children Marcella Barry (Bob), Lawson Brown (Filly), Daniel Brown, and Patrick Brown (Pam); her grandchildren: Lindsay Blohm, Lauren Fairchild, and Patrick Barry; Bridget Brown, Nancy St. Geours, and Gabriella Brown; Molly, Kevin, and Brendon Brown; and Lily and Lawson Brown.  She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, and by her sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Ken Robinson.

Marcia's happy place was her and Lawson's home on the Great Sacandaga Lake. She loved everything about the lake: boating, swimming, paddle boarding (including just last summer), water skiing, and of course, the views of the lake. Her children started coming every summer when they were younger, then began bringing their own children, and eventually, the great-grandchildren. Lawson and Marcia made the lake a home for all of us, for which we will be forever grateful.

Marcia had more friends than anyone we know. She was a force of nature and was always moving and doing. She was a friend of Bill W. for 48 years, and found wonderful companionship with the Sober Sisters. She also loved, loved, loved to exercise and was the fittest 80+ year old you've ever seen. She also had many friends at the Malta YMCA, who she loved exercising with and who were so important to her. In fact, just a week before she died, she joined her Y friends for their annual Christmas dinner.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park, N.Y.  12065. Visitation will be from 11:00-1:00 at the funeral home. It will be followed by a luncheon at 1:30 at The Fairways at Half Moon, 17 Johnson Road, Mechanicville NY 12118.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that Marcia’s legacy at the Saratoga Regional YMCA’s Malta branch be honored through donations made in her memory.  To contribute, please visit www.srymca.org/donate, click on “Give Today” and then select the “Dedicate this Donation” option. Please be sure to choose “Malta YMCA 2025 Campaign" to ensure your gift directly supports the Y that Marcia so dearly loved.
