Obituary of Arthur W. Jenkins
Arthur "Art" W. Jenkins, Jr., 80, went home to be with the Lord and his daughter, Leslie, following a brief onset of leukemia. Being very patriotic, it seems appropriate that he passed on July 4th!
Raised and educated in Oakfield, NY, he graduated from SUNY Albany having earned a BA in History. He served for six years in the NYS Army National Guard and was honorably discharged as a Sgt. Art and Charis met during college and married in 1961 when he began work with The Prudential Insurance Company of America with which he worked as an insurance agent for 50 years, retiring in 2011 as an Agent Emeritus. Art was very committed to his professionalism, being manifested both through the designations he earned, his desire to serve his clients well, to mentor other agents over the years, and to serve in numerous organizations to which he belonged. As with his business, he was committed to serve the community of Colonie as a Councilman and was instrumental in developing the Bike Path, the preservation of the land that was to become The Crossings, and the building of the William Sanford Town Library. He and Charis are members of the Loudonville Community Church where Art served as a deacon, worked on the building fund campaign for the new sanctuary and building renovations, and was an active participant in men's groups and small group study.
In addition to his wife, Charis, he is survived by two of their daughters: Jill Jenkins of Barcelona, Spain, and Gwynne Jenkins (and her husband, Mark McMillan) of Rockville, MD; 3 grandchildren; two brothers: Thomas and David Jenkins, both of Batavia, NY, and two nieces. He was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Bock, and by their daughter, Leslie Thaxton.
The family has specified that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Capital City Rescue Mission, 259 South Pearl Street, Albany, NY 12202 would be greatly appreciated.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 5:30 PM at the Loudonville Community Church, 374 Loudon Road (near corner of Route 9 and Crumitie Road), Loudonville, NY 12211, with the Rev. Jeff Robinson, Pastor, officiating. Friends are invited to call for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 4:30 PM. An entombment will be held at the convenience of the family.
