Obituary of Stephen O'Rourke

Stephen "Steve" O'Rourke, 68, of Schenectady, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at The Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's in Albany.

Born in Albany, he is the beloved son of Kathleen O'Hara O'Rourke and the late Thomas P. O'Rourke. He was a graduate of Troy High School, HVCC and attended UMass Amherst.

Mr. O'Rourke had been employed at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.

He was a Master of all trades, an avid outdoorsman who loved hiking, hunting and fishing, searching and screen sifting for Native American artifacts, wood carving and painting, but most all, loved his three grandchildren.

In addition to his beloved mother Kathleen, Stephen is the devoted father of Sarah J. (Joshua) Whitman, loving companion of 40 years of Louise Vitelli Lichty, dear brother of Kenneth O'Rourke, Susan (Gary) White, Timothy (Robin) O'Rourke, Nancy (Rick) Lorenzen, Elizabeth (Gary) Peterson, Michael (Shirley) O'Rourke, Daniel (Teresa) O'Rourke and the late Margaret Carroll, cherished grandfather of Zachary, Kaitlyn and Stella Whitman, also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his best friend and canine companion, Liberty.
