Richard J. "Dick" Sargood, Jr., 80, of Pittstown, beloved husband of 57 years of Doris K. Hand Sargood of Pittstown, peacefully entered into eternal life, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home, on Friday, July 21, 2017.
Born in Hoosick Falls, New York, he was the son of the late Richard J. and Mary Shannahan Sargood, Sr. and was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Hoosick Falls and Hoosick Falls Central High School where he lettered in football. He went on to serve our country from 1955 to 1961 in the U.S. Navy and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
Dick as he was affectionately known, will be missed by his family and friends, as well as anyone else that he came in contact with as he was a genuinely good person with a smile that would make friends with anyone,  was a happy-go-lucky kind of guy and loved life.
He was a devout Catholic having been actively involved at the former St. George's Church in Pittstown and then at Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy where he served in various capacities including being a Trustee, Finance Committee member and Altar Server to list a few, was an avid golfer, playing as many as five to six days a week at times, was a member of Hoosick Falls Country Club and Mt. Anthony Country Club and had accomplished two hole-in-one's. He had also enjoyed deer hunting. Dick had been a volunteer with the Pittstown Fire Co., helped establish and was a Charter Member of the Pittstown Rescue Squad, was a volunteer with the St. George's Church Youth Group. He also enjoyed the camaraderie with his friends on his daily visits to Duncan's Dairy Bar in Brunswick following Mass. Dick was an excellent wood crafter and worked with his nephew Donnie at Sargood's Custom Wood Craft, LLC in Hoosick Falls. In part of giving back to the community, they would annually donate custom wood crafts to benefit the "Visions of Strength" cause.
Beloved husband of 58 years of Doris, devoted father of Doris M. Yetto and Richard M. "Rich" (Colleen) Sargood, both of Pittstown, cherished "PaPa" of Kelsey Sargood (Kenny Jacques) and Cody Sargood (fiancé Lindsay King), both of Troy, brother of William "Chub" (Phyllis) Sargood , Margaret (Armand) Rousseau, both of Hoosick Falls, the late Robert and Donald Sargood and the late Mary Cross, also survived by his special loving nephew and best friend who was like another son, Donald "Donnie" Sargood of Hoosick Falls, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and his dear friend and Pastor, Rev. Randall P. Patterson of Troy.
