Obituary of Joan Harris Riebel

     Joan Harris Riebel, 80, formerly of Schuylerville and Clifton Park, NY died on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 in Roanoke, VA after a long illness. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, David L. Riebel, Esq in 2016, her daughter Erika Trauring in 2010 and her brother Harold Joseph Harris in 2017.  She is survived by her sons Greg and Scott Riebel, grandchildren Alexandra Strelow, Natalie, Samuel, and Annabel Riebel, Nicholas, Joshua, and Christopher Riebel, Max and Taylor Trauring, and also by her brother Brian Harris, sister Marion-- and her great grandchildren Penelope and Emmeline. 
 

      Joan was born on January 25, 1937 in Wilkes- Barre PA. She attended Cornell University where she met her husband David and was married in 1957 and had three children. Joan was active in the community, supported her husband in his legal practice, volunteered as a paramedic, and earned her bachelors degree at University Without Walls at Skidmore College.  She was a member of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church in Clifton Park for decades and was Choir Director. Joan was a wonderful cook and she and Dave loved to host large family gatherings and holiday parties at their home. She loved music and played the organ, violin, and piano.  She played bridge with friends, sewed, gardened, and traveled.  She especially loved her dogs and had many pets over the years. She had a wonderful, dry sense of humor including putting a photo of her German Shepherd’s face over her own on her drivers license.

     Calling hours will be Sunday December 3rd in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home , 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065 from 11am-1 pm. Interment will be in Jonesville Cemetery, Jonesville NY on Monday December 4th at 9:30 am.
