Obituary of Matilda A. Blain
Matilda A. Blain, 61, of the O’Neil Apts., departed this life on Sunday Jan. 21, 2018 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. She was born in Cairo, GA on May 27, 1956 and was the daughter of the late Woodrow Fortner and Charlie Mae Council. Matilda moved to Troy at a young age and was a graduate of Troy High School. She had been a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Van Rensselaer Manor for over 30 years. Matilda loved bingo, visiting casinos, shopping and watching her many western movies. Bold and the Beautiful and the Young and the Restless and especiallly spending time with her family and friends.
She is the devoted mother of “Quet” Blain, Jabreela Blain both of Troy;cherished grandmother of Breanna Rivers, Alonnie Blain, Martinque Crawford and Jayceon Johnson; God mother of Diamond Harris and Amaire Hernandez. She was a loving sister of Michael Lee Jones of NJ, Woodrow (Hattie) Fortner of Cairo, GA, Tyron (Kim) Dennis of Troy, NY, David (Kathy) Jamison of Syracuse, Cynthia (Benjamin) Rountree of Troy, Ozzy Ashley of FL" and Patricia McBride of Cairo, GA. She was predeceased by a brother Roger Dennis and three sisters, Martha (William) Pounds, Deborah Council and Theresa Kate Jones. She is also survived by a host of nieces (special niece, Yma Pounds-McCray), nephews, great nieces and nephews, adopted parents, George and Ela Robbins; special friends, Nancy, Leta and Jertt, along with her cousins and many friends.
Matilda’s Home Going Celebration will be on Monday Jan. 29, 2018 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 514 – 7th. Avenue in Lansingburgh with Rev. Jackie Robinson, Pastor, officiating.
A calling hour will precede the service from 10-11 am in the Church.
Interment will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.
The repast for family and friends will be at the O'Neil Apartments, 2121 - 6th. Ave. in Troy, NY 12180
following the burial.
Arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc. 565-4th. Avenue in Lansingburgh.
