Obituary of Olive Marie Palmer

Mrs. Olive M. (Batcheldor) Palmer of 149 Plant Road in Halfmoon, died on Sunday October 16, 2016 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a stroke on Tuesday October 11, 2016 at home. Born on April 30, 1925 to Milton and Adeline Dupree Batcheldor of Troy. Olive graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1943 and moved on to work as secretary for the Borden Ice Cream plant in Troy until retiring. On September 23, 1944, she married Edwin W. Palmer from Hoosick Falls. They were married at St. Peter's Rectory in Troy and have been happily married for 72 years. Olive enjoyed her flower garden, cooking and canning, crafts and going out to eat at Verdile's Restaurant in Lansingburgh. In their early years, they liked to travel to Hoosick Falls to see Edwin's sister Augusta Shaw and their two nieces. She also enjoyed their swing in the back yard. Olive looked forward to Christmas shopping on black Friday with her niece Roberta. She belonged to the Home Bureau in Clifton Park and was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Olive and her neighbor Dottie, would go out and collect coin cards for the Rescue Squad when it was just down the road from them. Olive is survived by her husband Edwin; brother, Frederick Batcheldor of Halfmoon, niece Colleen, nephew Bobbie Batcheldor of Florida, her special niece and care giver Roberta (Robert) Breese of Hoosick Falls, Grand niece Maria (Brian) Rousseau of Hoosick Falls, a cousin Norma Brenenstuhl of Hoosick Falls, grand nephew Richard (Mary) Bromirski of Georgia, a close friend and helper Clara Caplinger of Schenectady, and Dottie Middleton of Clifton Park, her Bridesmaid of 72 years, Mary Cordingley. Olive was predeceased by their son Glenn Palmer, brother Robert of Florida and a grand nephew, Gary Cramer of Hoosick Falls. Funeral service, which will be celebrated by her niece Roberta Breese, will be held on Thursday October 20, 2016 at 12 Noon in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9 in Clifton Park. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, N. Bennington, Vermont. Memorial contributions may be made to the CPHM Emergency Corps, 15 Crossing Blvd. Clifton Park, NY 12065 or to Hospice at Samaritan Hospital, 2215 Burdett Ave. Troy, NY 12180. The family would like to thank Samaritan Hospital Emergency Room staff and the 4th and 6th floor hospital staff, for the wonderful care given to Olive. Also, to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, for all their help and compassion shown to the family.
