HALFMOON - Elizabeth Frances Alward Butler, 95, passed away on October 11, 2016. She was born March 29,1921 to the late Frank Wm. Sr. & Doris (Wetherell) Alward of Pleasantdale, NY. Betty’s fierce life force was encountered by many, and treasured by all. Betty blazed a path from the Great Depression, through WWII into the Halfmoon community where her footprints will remain forever. She was active over the years in the Shenendehowa PTA, Home Bureau, Cub Scouts, 4-H. Cub Scouts, Masonic Camping, the Mechanicville Food Pantry instrumental in establishing the Clifton Park Library that started in a 4 room village school. Her house was “home” to an assortment of youth who will remember a warm hug, a bed, and great meals. She was a teacher at, and member of Emmanuel United Church and Star of Liberty Chapter, OES.
Betty is survived by her children: Wm. L. Butler (Terri Molakides) Woodside, CA; Leeann Warren (Keith) Rotterdam; and Daughter-in-law Heidi Higgins Butler (the late Donald J.) Hampton, NH; Sister-in-law Marlise J. Alward (the late Frank Wm. Jr.) Alaska. Grandchildren: Joel Butler(Amberlee); Eliott Butler(Stephanie Hirano); Kasey Butler; Kate Butler(Bob Goemans); Jonathan Butler(Heather); Jeff Butler(Jennifer Turner): Matthew Warren; Amanda Warren(Matthew Jones)-6 (soon to be 7)great grandchildren; her numerous nieces and nephews and companion for years, Michelle Proctor. Betty was predeceased by her loving and caring husband Leander (Lee) D. Butler in 1998, whom she married August 16, 1942; beloved sons Donald J. Butler and Bruce L Butler; sisters Patricia Marshall, June Gould, and brother Frank Wm. Alward Jr.
A memorial service will be held for Betty on Wednesday October 26th at 10:00 a.m. at Clifton Park Center Baptist Church, 713 Clifton Park Center Rd. Clifton Park, NY 12065. Burial will be at Clifton Park Village Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
