Obituary of Barbara L. Woods
Barbara Griswold Woods, 87, passed away Nov. 2, 2018 at Saratoga Hospital after a brief illness with her children at her side. Born on Nov. 16, 1930 in Bennington, NH, she was the daughter of the late Marion Shea Griswold and George Griswold. She was a graduate of Peterborough High School and married Edward Woods on June 28, 1952. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage until his passing.
She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, two brothers and a sister. She is survived by five children, Patricia Auer (Douglas) of Queensbury, Sandra Purcell (James) of Niskayuna, Katherine Serlin of Lake George, Nancy Brodeur (Claude) of Malta and Edward of Voorheesville; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Jeram (Daniel) of Clifton Park, Holly Auer (David Gaulin) of Cherry Hill, NJ, Alyssa Chapados (Frederic) of New York City, Garrett Auer of Melbourne, FL, Sarah Wormwood (Timothy) of Clifton Park, Zachary Serlin of Boston, Sam Woods of Los Angeles, and Andrew and Jack Woods of Slingerlands. She was also the proud great-grandmother of eight; Clara Gaulin; Jimmy, Benjamin and Madeline Jeram; Olivia Charlotte, and Jake Chapados; and Tanner Wormwood.
Following her marrieage, she began raising her children in Antrim, NH and moved to Chestertown, NY in 1962. She worked as a secretary at the Stevenson Agency in Chestertown until her retirement and then embarked on another career selling real estate throughout the area. She was a talented quilter and seamstress, creating personalized gifts of all kinds, from holiday decoration to colorful quilts to matching pajamas for her grandchildren.
Her home in Chestertown was for many decades the sight of happy family and holiday gatherings and a warm and treasured place for her children and grandchildren to visit and play. She was a spirited storyteller whose tales of experiences large and small were filled with excitement and laugher, and she was a proud supporter of her grandchildren’s activities and accomplishments, attending many school concerts, plays, religious sacraments and sporting activities of all kinds.
In 1997, she and Ed moved to Clifton Park, where she spent time volunteering at the soup kitchen, Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home cultivating both new and longtime friendships. In Chestertown she was a communicant of the former St. John the Baptist Church and had later been a communicant of St. Edward the Confessor Church in Clifton Park.
Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am at St. Edward the Confessor Church in Clifton Park where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 pm Monday in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065
Interment will be on Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery in Bennington, NH where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband.
