Obituary of Joan E. Crandall
Joan E. Crandall, 85, of Melrose, beloved wife for 64 years to Frank Crandall, Jr., peacefully entered into eternal life on Friday, July 19, 2019.
Born in Mechanicville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Raymond F. and Ethel E. Crandall Rose and was a graduate of Mechanicville High School.
Mrs. Crandall was the backbone and co-owner of Frank Crandall & Son in Melrose for many years. She had also previously been employed as a Secretary for RPI’s Athletic Department for several years prior to working for New York State for a short period.
For so many years, Joan was an active member of the Melrose United Methodist Church, the Bedford Ashley Homemakers, was well known throughout the community as a 4H leader for many years, was an avid gardener, loved camping and traveling with her husband, children and grandchildren, was an accomplished, creative and talented seamstress and was well known for making her famous lemon meringue pies that everyone so admired.
She is survived by her beloved husband Frank, Jr., who she married on September 25, 1955 and is the devoted mother of Laurie Crandall Spear (late, Sam), Debra Ellett (George), Ora-Ann Schermerhorn (Bob) and Frank Crandall, III (Patty), all of Melrose, sister of Raymond Rose, Jr. of Florida, cherished “Grandma” of Heidi Donlon (Joe), Stephanie Pasquale (Adam), Derek Ellett, Frank Crandall, IV, and Cassandra Alexis Crandall, also survived by several nieces and nephews and was eagerly anticipating the birth of her first great grandchild on September 8th.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Melrose United Methodist Church, Church St., Melrose, NY 12121.
There will be no public calling hours.
Burial will be held at a later date in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the White-Sanvidge Funeral Home, 58 Leversee Rd, (Rt-40 in Speigletown) Troy, NY 12182.
